Dungeons and Dragons

Landing page for Dungeons and Dragons in the DMV. Currently this page links to my current campaign Deorcost and aggregates online RPG resources for Players and Game Masters with a focus on D&D 5e. I am hoping to include more local content.

  Online Resources

General RPG resources

  • donjon: Great resource. Random generators for names, dungeon layouts, magic items, and treasure. Covers AD&D, Pathfinder, D&D 4e, and D&D 5e.
  • PCGen: Open-source software (GitHub link) for character creation. Java based. Supports D&D 3.5e, Pathfinder, and D&D 5e rulesets.

Game systems

  • D&D, 5th edition: Current version of the classic Dungeons and Dragons. Published by Wizards of the Coast: Traditionally played in a classic, Tolkeinesque, medieval, high fantasy setting. Game system used for my campaign, Deorcost.
  • Pathfinder: An extension of the revised D&D 3rd edition open-source rules (System Reference Document), created and developed by Paizo. A new version of Pathfinder, Pathfinder Second Edition, is under development.
  • Numenera: Science-fantasy RPG set in the dystopian, ruined remnant of an advanced civilization, 1 billion years in the future. Numenera has an inviting rule set and novel method of character creation. By Monte Cook Games.
  • Generic Universal RolePlaying System (GURPS): Generic RPG designed to be used in any setting.

D&D 5e Resources

General Resources

  • D&D Beyond by Wizards of the Coast: The paid portal for all things D&D 5th edition. I find the encounter builder to be particularly helpful although its use is limited without E-Book purchases of source material.
  • 5e SRD (from roll20.net): Searchable index of D&D 5e rules (combat, creatures, characters, etc.).
  • 5e SRD (from 5thsrd.org): Another D&D 5e SRD reference. Their Monsters by CR page is a good free resource for creating combat.
  • 5e SRD (from dnd5e.org): Another D&D 5e SRD reference.
  • Sage Advice Compendium: Official (by Wizards of the Coast lead designer Jeremy Crawford) PDF compendium of questions and answers about the 5e ruleset.

Character Creation

  • Alignment. A through discussion of D&D alignments. It includes a discussion of the connection of D&D alignments to more traditional psychological labels.
